Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon on 20 July 1969, talks about the importance of re-invigorating space exploration.

I was lucky to be involved from a very early point in the production process. The ideas for immersing Aldrin in a continuous 'space' background came from me. I also helped organise and direct the 3 camera blue screen shoot.

Because NASA's media is copyright free, I downloaded all the high-res stills I needed from the web. But a quirk of Quantel and the setup we are working with is that I cannot import media of different resolutions on to my timeline. So, those high-res stills would normally have been compressed into 1024x576 pixels - output resolution. That would not have worked for this video. I needed them as high-res stills, so that I could pan around. The solution was to cut the stills up into "screen-sized" rectangles. Some of these ended up as 9 panels (3 wide x 3 high). Back on Quantel I stitched them back together to end up with the kind of high res images that allowed for lots of panning around.

Broadcast: Sky News, November 2008

Shakespeare's England?

This is an authored piece, presented by the person telling their story or expressing their point of view.
