Interesting dialogue but doesn't make sense.

hi sound wasn't great...sounded distant...it was ok... like the mcguffin reference but it kind of ruined it too as it left me slightly frustrated...confused. Has some nice stuff in there though!

I found this film off the wall, and thrown together to quickly. No pacing and just lifting text from "MacGuffin" does not really show a link to the festival rules. I could not see the swordfish connection. I found the after effects work the best part. Colour correction required on the footage. Better luck next time. Mark Dawson

I liked the character. Good definition of the McGuffin. It’s well written and acted. The voice cuts in the editing give a good rhythm to the film. But sometimes they seem to overlap, blurring the meaning… The film suffers from the “One-man-orchestra” syndrome. Even if it’s supposed to portray two persons, it feels like there’s only one. The shots and reverse shots don’t work very well. On the first cut, the two guys are looking in the same direction. This is a break in the 180° rule.. The empty chair feels strange. I guess the “other” guy is supposed to sit there, but it’s obvious he’s not, and it distracts the eye. I’m not too fond of the CGI. It looks ancient when the superhero is a very modern one.

Sack Face rules! Did I ever tell you where I got my sack? My father use to save every sack from the grocery store. He was like that, saved everything. Which is why he noticed when I took one of the sacks to hold my lunch for school. Take MY sack he said? Why don't you take this one as well. He wrapped it around my head until I stopped breathing. Oh but just before it was too late he punched three holes in the face of the sack. Why so serious he asked? Never take one of my sacks again. Great video! LOL

LOL. That was good. You had me going on that one. SackFace will have to step it up in the next one. This was a rushed job to beat the deadline so I hope that you get to see the finished product. Tieuel Legacy! aka The Devil's Devil's Advocate

McGuffins
You could have a whole debate on just the McGuffins in this short. The Tube? The Bag? I don't want to give anything away. A really cool take on the contest guidelines. Nice job. Solid editing as well.

The dialogue was cool. I don't know that it felt very cinematic. Does it really pay homage to a film? Different, but I liked it as a film buff.

Tieuel Legacy    March 24, 2009 09:11 AM
Cinematic?
Hey Jason, I paid homage to the opening sequence in Swordfish prior to the use of bullet time in that movie. The interview, in that movie, paid homage to Al Pacino movies. Mine interview paid homage to the MacGuffin and to Heath Ledger's Joker. What would make the film more CINEMATIC for you? Tieuel Legacy! aka The Devil's Devil's Advocate

Thanks
I appreciate the constructive crit. The interview style and connection to movie elements was associated with the intro scene of Swordfish. Variations between being in and out of focus. However, I didn't show the same camera movements. Definitely a reason for that. Even if that didn't pay homage, I would think that the MacGuffin element would fit into the rules. It was almost a direct quote from Hitchcock. The entire discussion was based on that. My question to Mark Dawson is whether or not the scene had to be a replica or just our take. If the former then only a handful of the ones that I voted on should receive higher than a 2 for not following the rules. I can do a spoof if that is what the contest calls for. I would like to see your comments on the other films. I intentionally corrected the indoor footage for the redness that appeared for this particular clip. It should've felt a bit warm. The same character was used in a Doritos contest and it was shot cold. Also, thanks Phillip. The sound was definitely hollow and it'll be done better next time. It WAS a rush job with a one man crew all around. I'll look for part 4 of the contest. I'm curious to know which of the films were ranked 4's and 5's by the judges. Thank you all.
