Avalanche Alley

This short film is a collection of shots from a week long period at the end of March this year. I had been waiting on this spot to shoot avalanche sequences since 2006, when I first realised the possibilities of the location. Whilst the conditions were working against me this winter, I still managed to complete a small chapter, to what I hope will be a much broader story.
I wanted to create a black and white sequence and the mixture of light quality helped me to make that decision.
The music is a remix of a track I made in Reason a few years back.

Adrian,

That's some really good footage you've captured there. I especially liked the opening shot, some of the wide shots the mountains and the shot from under the trees @ 1:14 with the stream, the shot @3:48 and the shot at 3:58.
I think the choice to go black and white with this one was a good one, though I think you need to crush the blacks a bit on some of the footage?
Nice soothing music too.

Shiv,
Thanks for the comments.

I was a bit conservative when I converted this to B&W, as some of the shots are overly washed out and not just from the quicktime conversion. Some of the bad light shots probably could have benefited from a bit of treatment in Color.

Cheers

Adrian

I assume this is around Mont Saxonnex? I climbed up to the col d'Encrenaz around the end of April on skis with a friend from la Roche. It is a spectacular area.
Superb film. Respect.

Hi David

Yeah, it is indeed all shot in the one location, focused on the faces of the Bargy. Glad you got to see part of this beautiful area.

Best

Adrian

New season
The snow was back on the Bargy at the weekend, maybe not in "Avalanche Alley" quantities. We seem to have gone from a kind of summer to winter this year.
