BiographyLast updated: August 2008 I'm currently working for Sky News London, cutting short news pieces, half-hour and hour-long specials and documentaries. In 2003 I was awarded a masters degree in Communication Design with distinction from London's Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Working with designers and artists (filmmakers, photographers, graphic designers, illustrators and typographers) from around the world has helped me sharpen my understanding of visual design, structure and narrative. Prior to that I had been working as in-house editor for Johannesburg based production company Curious Pictures. I edited music programmes, game shows, docu-dramas and documentaries. During my earlier period of freelancing, I had the chance to be assistant editor to one of South Africa's top film editors, Avril Beukes. I also did a 10-month stint as promo producer at the SABC, during which time I won a Best Promo award from the South African Guild of Editors. In 1998 I completed a humanities degree at the University of Cape Town (UCT), coming top of my year with a distinction. Between leaving school and going to UCT, I spent 2 years in Hamburg, Germany, doing various film related apprenticeships. It was working in a film laboratory that established my original interest in post-production. |
