This was put together by my wife Lydia using a bunch of footage I shot out in the streets around Seminyak, where we were staying in Bali in late June 2008. Originally I was just going to edit the footage together with a bunch of crazy edits, but since Lydia had already used a bunch of these clips in her last video, I decided to talk her into using the rest.

As an incentive to give her something to work with, I wrote her some poetry for it, based on what I'd shot in the footage and my experience walking around the streets of Bali that afternoon. Of course since I know nothing about poetry, she changed most of what I wrote! But the essence is still there.

After that Lydia wrote the music and put it all together in Acid, rendered off a rough wav of it and edited the video to that in Vegas. It was then time for her to record the vocals in my studio with the home made fold out vocal booth that hangs off the wall here.

Then it was back to me. I mixed her music, but had trouble due to a few layered drums on top of the main drum part. So I scrapped those! Kind of like payback for her altering my poetry ;-) I time corrected some of her vocals, and then mastered the track a number of times before I was happy with how it was sounding. I'm still not 100% sure if it's ok?

Lastly, I messed around with the colours and levels of the video, and then rendered out the final copy you see here. Well, not quite.. This was the third render. The first I got wrong apparently because the vocal harmony was louder than the main vocal.. then the 2nd time the music was playing from the wrong spot. Simple mistakes!

Hahaha payback for altering your poetry :p I only wanted to experiment on the voice-over electronika style, sweet, so needed something more rhythmical than what you had :D But thanks for getting rid off all my hard work with the drums :p hehe, it sounds much better without the mess anyway :D

Haha, yeah... you're welcome to edit the text if you want to add anything to what I've written. Then I think it will default to being your video?

Hey Lydia and Glenn,

Nice work once again. I like the style, different images combined, the background (what effect is that?), the text and layout

Want to know what i don't like?:

At the risk of sounding like a 90-year old Alzheimer patient, for me this short is too fast. I want to let the images flow in, and by the time i've let my eyes gaze over three images and two lines of text, the next part is already over.

I love the text fading in, but i'm not fond of travelling text (apart from your end credits, which are fine), because it's too fast for me to read! :)

But all that criticism is very minor compared to the joy and quality and beauty you people bring us.

Thanks!

Thanks for the comment Willem.

LOL @ the '90-year old Alzheimer patient' comment!

I leave the leave editor to respond to this since that's her department ;)

Glenn, what i find very funny is that Lydia had apparently no idea you were about to post this, hence she posts a comment on her own work.

Very funny. Great interaction.

Haha, Alzheimer patient? I was actually trying to induce epilepsy with the repetitive motion of the text and visual :D

Thanks for the feedback, Willem! Ah, I think you're right. They do move real fast. I think having three images in one frame make things worse as well, and having them disappear in time with the last three beats of the bar didn't give enough time to absorb. I was hoping though by the time we got to the third stanza that we could adjust to the rhythm and expect when things would start appearing/disappearing (cause the pattern is all the same, xcept for the bit where I'm actually singing).

The text hehe, yeah I think the idea is that you don't really need the text, cause I am 'reading' the words to you. But to be sure that everybody gets my mumbled voice, the text is there to read too ;) That reminds me of those 'Naked Gun' movies where they give subtitles to characters who speak in slang haha... But I agree, they all move real fast. I gotta do something about that :)

Thanks again, really appreciate the watch and comment!

PS. you're right, Glenn posted the video without telling me! And what he wrote in the description, I felt like I had to defend myself comment :p

Willem, it's ok, she knew I was posting it here :)
