This is my wife's video. We went out the other day and I shot a bunch of footage for her to edit. The poetry is all hers too, as is the music. Although I mixed and mastered that for her.

Glenn, Lydia,
This is a beautiful video. You guys works well as a team too. I derive the greatest pleasure from seeing products of teamwork like this because it means the viewer gets the efforts of more than one person. Collaboration with a single minded purpose, fraught with comprises to ensure the success of the end product.
Loved the music and the play on…..well visuals I guess in this case as well.
Look forward to seeing more of this kind of stuff. Oh, the editing style and some of the visuals almost made it seem like a sequel to your "At the Dam".

Hi Shiv,
Thanks for the kind words. A bit difficult to get Lydia to sign up here herself :-|
Yeah, she'd been using random bits of video networked from my computer here for a couple of her old edits. It was all a bit mismatched, so I decided we'd go out and shoot some video specifically for her to use.
Glad you liked it!

What'll it take to get Lydia to sign up?

Good question. Maybe by finding some way of shutting down Facebook permanently? Or adding board games to Exposure Room perhaps? :-)

Gosh if facebook shuts down we'll have .....well I'd rather not say :).
Well, maybe she can promote XR on Facebook! We've worked with Facebook to allow us to embed videos and such. Not sure if you've tried that.
Does she write scripts?

No, I haven't tried embedding videos on Facebook. To be honest, I try and avoid it as much as possible! Perhaps you should write an dedicated app for it?
Scripts, yes, she's written one. Mostly short stories, and a novel at the moment also.

Embedding a video in face book is a simple click. See the facebook icon under your video? Technically, we had to add a lot of thing to evry asset page to accomodate facebook. They have their own standard as does MySpace. But for MySpace and others we generated the embed code when required. For facebook each page had to be altered to suit their needs.
A Facebook app, huh? We've thought about it but earlier on, but don't see what the app would do and so the benefit.
Script writers are potential members of XR as well. We don't cater to them currently as you know, but eventually we want that whole collaboration thing to go to that level. Kind of whta you guys did for this video.

A quick message here. I've fixed the colours and levels in this video and uploaded it again. So for anyone who saw the old version, it looks a lot more vibrant now.
Shiv, I eventually got around to trying the Facebook button. Although it doesn't embed the video, it just seems to send a link to people selected on Facebook. But they have to be selected alphabetially by typing in a letter of their name. So it could take a while if you want to send it to everyone. But that's probably on the Facebook side of things, not yours.

Glenn,
The video looks much better!
Facebook - yes we can take it only upto the point where their system gets the information about the video from our system. What happens after that is their stuff. But knowing how these websites work, shouldn't your friends on facebook see you did that in their "feed" (Like we do on XR)?

Thanks Shiv,
Yes, I'm not so sure about Facebook. But I'm sure the friends should be able to see the feed. Still, the current system seems to work. They receive a message about an asset posted which then brings them here if they're interested. More visitors to XR!

To me these images are superb. Great, great, grand. Can't wait to buy an HV20. What adapter did you use?

Thanks Willem. The adapter is an SG Pro from www.shoot35.com Unlike most of the other adapters, it gives you a nice film like bokeh where you can see tiny little circles on highlights in out of focus areas. That's the look most people buy it for :)

Glenn,
That is superb, since i had my mind set on the SGPro and will be buying it this fall probably, when i'll have my HV20. This is so great to see a vibrant example of the HV20 SGPro. I'll definitely check out those Nikon lenses, since i'm all into Canon FD now. I hope to post something soon like you, Glenn. The textures, contrast, light, it's really a great talent you have there. I'll look forward to more of your work.
cheers

Willem,
Thanks again for the compliments. You probably should look into the HV30 actually. It's the newer model and looks a bit better because it's black. Plus I think it can charge the 2400mah batteries quicker than the HV20. You could still use FD lenses if you already have some. Just order the SG Pro with the FD mount. I don't think there would any difference, providing they were still similar speed lenses.
I think with this clip, I just managed to shoot all the footage at the right time when the sun was going down. There was also some extra saturation added to bring out the colours more after my wife finished the edit.

I do really like the concept of what you have done here. The rhythm of the music and the revelation of the text is very well coordinated. My only real qualm is the shakiness of the camera. Don't get me wrong, I totally see how the kinetic quality adds to the piece but I think the power would be greater by making some of your moves more cinematic....slow everything down a little...pans, tilts. Also, some of your shots were working literally with the words and others seemed a little too random.
Anyway, I think it's well done and original and I enjoyed watching it.

Thanks Steven, I'll pass your comments on to my wife.
Yes, I agree too there's probably a few too many shaky shots. Not all the footage I shot for her was that bad. But definitely something I need to look out for in future.
The words, yes, Lydia essentially wrote to what she'd edited together in the video. At one point she was going to remove the poetry altogether, but decided to keep it in there.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh yes.
Real simple, feel good video. Love the poetry, nice visual atmosphere. Something extra about it I can't put my finger on yet (but I will).
cheers,
marty

Glenn,
I read in the SGPro forum that you use a close-up lens to focus the HV20 on the SGPro and to avoid vignetting. It would certainly explain why there's a lot less vignetting in your work than in much of the SGPro-HV20 footage i've seen so far.
Did you use that lens here as well?

Hi Willem, sorry I'm a month late replying here. I was away when you posted and have only just found your comment.
No, I was only using the close up filter with the old Rev 1 SG Pro because I couldn't focus on the GG. I don't have that problem with the Rev 3. It works quite nicely. Only issue I have is a bit of vignetting with the 28mm lens. It's not too bad, but I'm hoping to try one of the faster Sigma wide angle lenses when I get a chance.
