There used to be an old joke: How do you make a rich man poor? Give him a camera. In my case, the opposite is true.
Okay, so perhaps I'm not "Daddy Warbucks" rich or "Silver Spoons" rich (didn't Ricky have a ride-on train in the house?).  However, I am wealthy where it counts; happiness and experience. Having hefted a nail-hammering Pentax K2 passed down from my mom when I was still in high school, my nascent career began. I guess bringing it to school every day was enough of a clue to the photography teacher that I was slightly obsessed. With his encouragement, I gave up a much more promising track of bio-tech, much to the chagrin of my parents, no doubt.
Since I'm also a bit of a gear-head, I figured that what better way to spend double my earnings than get involved with the rapidly emerging home-video scene (this was the 80's after all). Seeing myself making music videos, shooting rock-bands and having a possible side-gig as a National Geographic globe-trotting photojournalist....that would be the life indeed!
Well, I might not have gotten THAT far, but I did pursue my dream, work with the big networks (ABC News, SportsChannel NY and USA Networks) as well as hundreds of smaller and sometimes more interesting individuals and small companies.
Fast-forward to today and I can proudly say that I've been pursuing my dreams and doing what I love every day. How's that for rich?
