This is a 30-second loop of a DVD motion menu that I designed for the Whitewood Band's first DVD music video, from a performance at the Ridgefield Playhouse.

The backdrop in the concert was a white patternless surface lit by gelled lights. Uneven in nature, it presented a challenge to keying, but nevertheless a possibility. I experimented with that and managed to pull a key, thanks to the EX1's clean video signal.

The key was pulled in Adobe AfterEffects using the KeyLight plugin. I set the key color to fuscia, but the despill colors had to be experimented with in order to get a decent key.

The band video was layerd in a 3D AE project. Their logo, which I captured from an earlier concert video (HD is wonderful) was overlayed on a wood background in PhotoShop, using some mathematical operators to achieve a look of xylopyrography, as if the logo were burned with a hot branding iron. That was used for the DVD cover. I took that image and used it for the backdrop. Note how the color keyed video casts realistic shadows on the background, giving it a convincing effect.
