I survived another public speaking engagement unscathed, this time presenting on HDTV and the coming transition to digital.
The audience was receptive and we had a large auditorium that was part of a large hospital, so the facilities were top-notch.
As I went through my presentation, many of the attendees asked specific questions and I was able to answer nearly all of them off the top of my head. I started at the dot of eight o'clock and finished up about 9:20pm.
I covered everything from television standards to display technology, using colorful charts and drawings depicting everything from viewing distance vs. screen size to the make-up of various flat panel displays.
At my closing, the audience gave a surprisingly-warm applause.
Afterwards, several people approached me with questions, and one of them stated that it was the best presentation he'd seen in the history of DACS.
Overall, it was a satisfying evening and a chance to self-promote, albeit I kept that to a minimum.
Someone asked me if I'm available for hire, to give talks. I explained that although I don't do this for a living, I certainly would be willing to present on a topic I'm knowledgeable on. Hmmm... we'll see what happens in the future.
It was a good evening, and a few of my friends were in attendance, which was nice as well.

That's great to hear Mark.

Well since you had fun and the attendees enjoyed the presentation, what more can one ask for. Besides, since people were asking you questions it goes to show that you not only were you presenting the information well, but that it was on topic and not too far over their heads. So good job!

The only other thing one could ask for is for attendees to patronize one's business.. I give these presentations as a means of promoting my services and educating people about common misconceptions in home theater. One can only hope that eventually, I see some paid work as a result of my exposure with various local appearances.
I kept this presentation very much reigned in. Some of my associates who were present at the conference chastised me for not doing more self-promotion in my talk!
