I filmed this footage today while walking around Nymans Gardens, a National Trust property in West Sussex. Most of the shots were achieved using the HD crop mode on the GH2 with 45-200 lens. The shot of the Balcombe viaduct was at the 200mm max and I can tell you that that bridge is a long way away! In some shots you might notice some tripod movement so thats something to keep in mind when using the crop mode, you will need a nice solid tripod, add some weight if you can! Some modest grading using Magic bullet looks.

Nicely done Bradley

I've been looking out for this camera. I'm currently hooked on the canon aesthetic but wary of its moire and funky aliasing quirks. I have been disappointed with other videos I have seen being posted online with this camera as they seemed to lack the color density and luminosity I find with large chip cams like the 5D and 7D. But in your video you seemed to have nailed the look and aesthetic I yearn for from the GH2. Please tell me how you manage the settings to give you this pleasing aesthetic. What mode? sharpness, contrast and color settings? I found most GH2 footage to lean to the magenta side. I found yours to have achieved a nice warm look to them, was this cc in post? I saw another test you did which shows you have experience with the 7D as well, would you say this is an all out better cam than the 7D? or it merely compliments the other? Hope to learn from your experience. Ted

Thanks Ted, If I recall correctly this was shot with the GH2 standard colour profile setting. I had intended to use the cinema profile but I'd been taking some stills and forgot to switch it over! The post grading is quite gentle and I've mainly just pushed the contrast and in some cases warmed the image up a bit. What I sometimes do is use the incorrect white balance setting if I know I want to push for a very warm look. In some of the shots, despite the sun already having a warm colour and being in shot I chose 'cloudy' or 'shade' what pushed the image to the warmer side. I know what you mean about the magenta colour cast, I've seen it too but not all the time and I find it easy enough to modify in post. I've had a 7d for a year now and it's gone up for sale. Lovely camera especially for stills but it's big and bulky and I've grown to the love the handling of the gh1/gh2 plus the evf and live histogram are fantastic. As far as image quality goes, the GH2 always looks sharper. The 7d (and all the canons) to my eyes looks like it's really shooting 720p resolution and upscaling it to 1080p. The GH1/2 on the other hand looks much closer to the proper 1080p you get out of pro video cameras. There is a small sacrifice in terms of the shallow depth of field look but not by much. Perhaps for film making where a nice soft look and shallow depth of field is needed most of the time then the Canon's are a great choice. I'd say for just about anything else I'd lean towards the gh2! I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Thank you

Bradley, Thank you so much for taking the time sharing the technical information. I will look forward to more of your work shot on the gh2. Again, thanks. Ted
