Beautiful!
David Cheok    April 20, 2008 02:33 PM

Thanks David.

So David,

You must have had a realy clear day. There is no haze. How did you get unobstructed shots, did you have doors open? Love the shot you have here.
David Cheok    April 24, 2008 09:40 PM

Well, it was about 6:30 am..we were lucky the day was good... and i was shooting with doors opened and harnessed. Vibrations and turbulence was definitely an issue. I would've sourced a gyro if I expected to shoot these more often but i doubt it. Market not there yet.
Shiv Kumar    April 24, 2008 10:56 PM

Must have been quite an experience hanging out the door huh?
David Cheok    April 24, 2008 11:08 PM

Yeah.. Its quite a strange feeling being 1500 ft up in the air with the wind rushing through your hair. Definitely not something for people with fear of heights. I remembered one feeling as a cold rush of blood through my veins as the thought of nothing but air holding us up and nothing but air to cushion us should we fall.
Shiv Kumar    April 25, 2008 12:03 AM

I can imagine! So besides the harness did you have a parachute on? And what was holding your gear in place?
David Cheok    April 25, 2008 12:27 AM

No.. parachutes dont work on helis. Unless u want to risk being chopped up by the blades..
Gear in place? U mean our bags? Under a secured netting.
Shiv Kumar    April 25, 2008 12:32 AM

By gear I mean the camera and tripod etc. For one, was the camera and other gear at the door secured in some way? And second, what kept the camera from moving?
David Cheok    April 25, 2008 03:34 AM

No tripod. Hours of hand held agony holding the EX1 and a monopod balancing the left-sided natural lope siding of the EX1. I brought everything else in my pockets (extra SxS cards). The battery life of the EX1 BP-U60 battery was great. I couldn't rent a gyro stabiliizer system here and the ROI of investing in one was non-existent here so I had to make do with my natural organic stabilizer system :p
