Great job

This must have taken some time to film, the lighting was brill, well done all.
Frank Glencairn    April 02, 2009 06:10 AM

Thanks.

My goal was to make it look like it was only lit by the X-mas tree and the cold light of a snowy city, coming from the outside.

Took more than 3k of light thou.

Actualy I shot it on a Sunday afternoon.

Equipment used ?

Any chance you could list what camera and add ons you used as their are a few video/film chaps on this site who would love to know.
Frank Glencairn    April 02, 2009 03:38 PM

Sure.

HVX 200, Letus Extreme, Zeiss Medium Format Primes of the 1960s.
Recording was uncompressed via RGB output to my NLE (Blackmagic).
I used a DIY crane an dolly and a "wellness light".

Here are some behind the scenec pictures, featuring the crane and dolly system. http://exposureroom.com/members/FrankGlen.aspx/photos/

Any other questions?

If I have some time on my hands, I do a Directors Cut, to bring back some stuff that I had to cut out to meet the Festival rules.
Also going to fix the audio.

I wrote someting about the visual language of One Tear For You here : http://thepost.de/The_Visual_Language_of_O.T.F.Y..pdf

Lighting

Frank I don't know your budgets for your films or how you earn money but look into LED lighting. I have 3 LED lights, two 500W and one 1000W the best news is that the 500W use 50W of power and are 5400K and the 1000W uses 100W of power (5400K) they are both run off 12V via 4 pin XLR or mains power. You need to use diffusion over the lights or simply bounce the light. Just an idea. You can get them from www.prompterpeople.co.uk
Lastly I am so impressed with your work that I am highlighting it on my blog www.hdwarrior.co.uk

The Budget for both films was ZERO! Earning money? Are you kidding me?

I pay the rent by doing 3D Animation, Editing, VFX andwhatnot.
But I want to go into narrative filmmaking (yeah, who not?)- so I´m doing those festival entrys to get my feet wet and gain experiance.

I use relative cheap (260 Euros a pair with softbox and stand) flou lights in the moment (pus a view fresnells). They put out the equivalent of about 600 Watts, wich is fine for the money. I also use 45 Euro "ELTA Wellness Lights" wich is actualy a hard plastic softbox (with or without diffusor) and features 2 Osram Dulux 50 Watt Flou Bulbs. The put out about 10000 LUX and I realy love them.
Also got a 5400k spot, that has 450 LEDs but never used it in production so far.

The LEDs you use is pretty impressive, but out of my budget in the moment(recession hit me bad).
Powering it on 12V makes it even more tempting - I deffinitley will get me some of these when I have some extra $$.

Thanks for the heads up and the entry on yur blog - realy apreciate that.

This is my favorite of Jimmy Gelhaar's music..he left a message on the Facebook page to direct to this video...Despite total ignorance to all the "necessities" involved in the making..that I know nothing of...I would like for you to know that I thought this was a breath holding-attention holding video..yes, of course, I cried.....I will look and admire your other works...thank you so much Kathy

Thank you so much for your warm words Kathy.

This mini melodrama already made grown men cry (much to my surprise, since I did not intend this, thou I know it´s a sad film)

I´m glad you like it.
It did not get much attention on the Filmfest it was made for, since the taste of a lot of people turns towards Dogma like shaky handheld out-of-focus.everything camera work, shooting mainly peoples faces - super close up without much dialog or story in avialable light

Looks like I´m a bit to old school ;-)

Still looking good!

Frank,

I still really love the coloring in this... Looks so good!

:)

I sent you an email about this movie yesterday and thought I'd message you here, too, to see if I can find you. Let me know if you are around.

Thank you!

Again, great job! I love Jenny in this role, too. She looks awesome!

Jimmy
