The Passenger
The Film Reference
One of my all-time favorite movies is Terry Gilliam's "Twelve Monkeys". The end scene in the airport ties up the whole movie and is set to a song appropriately called "Dreamers Awake".
In stead of doing a short about time travel, we developed the idea of a scene taking place in an airport where the protagonist would have an "awakening". Gilliam wanted to finish his movie with the airport scene, but was persuaded to include a final scene in the parking lot outside. So we tried to incorporate that as well. (I would have liked to include a gun, like in the movie, but just getting permission to film was such a big deal I didn't want to push our luck :)
The Short
The title of the short is "The Passenger". Our protagonist is modern man, pursuing his career. He is goal-oriented and seemingly in the driver's seat of his own life, but soon awakes to the realization that he has been so busy "getting there" that he forgot to question where "there" really is.
And...
We gave each other fancy titles for this project, but it was very much a collaborative effort between everyone involved. It's our first short film, full of challenges, but it was very inspiring. I can't wait for the next Bloomfest :)
