On a recent vacation I took with my wife, I brought along my camera to do several test. With no agenda it was the perfect time to evaluate different aspects of cinematography. The first test that I conducted focused on field of view. I would argue that the second most important tool that the cinematographer has at his / her disposal is the focal length of the lens. (The first is lighting.) Since this was a vacation for me, I did not bring along all of my gear, so you will have to forgive the crude lighting job of these pictures. While the lighting is not great by any means, they do show the impact that focal length can have on the over all feel of the scene.
