Be prepared for anything. The tools of a 1st AC are essential for every production. Equipped with the right tools, a good 1st AC is a life saver on set, allowing the camera operator and the DP to focus on their roles which in turn brings up the over all production value. So, what should a 1st AC have in their tool box? Listed below is what I carry with me to each production that I work on. If I am afforded a 1st AC, then they will bring their own kit, which will have many of the same items in it- but I’d rather have duplicates, then not have these tools on hand. Some of these tools are more geared towards the role of the DP, but are still valuable to have on hand if you are gearing up for a job as a 1st AC.
