This is a really good piece of work.  The story is nice, the editing and pace are nice, and the camera work is nice.

 

In one of the blog posts that the director wrote about the project, he mentions 1/3rds of the film - Part One being the setup, Part Two is the workout montage, and Part Three is the final payoff. So I'll talk about my views of the film in 1/3rds.

 

Part One seemed a little, well, I don't know how to say. I'll say that Part One was just "OK" for me.  But don't fret...

I liked Part Two a lot. The workout montage was great, the different angles of him doing pushups - like a machine, up, down, up, down. It would have been nice to see a closeup of a muscle straining or a tendon tightening during this part, maybe a vein pumping. But very nice overall.

Then, in Part Three, you've got the overall payoff of the story, which is great. I liked the story a lot.  But what I really love is the camera work. Once his "problem" is fixed, he's wailing away at the heavy bag and it seems as if the camera is punching in slightly with each fist slam - like we're being punched too. I don't know if you were doing a quick zoom in post for each strike, or if you're super-quick on the focus wheel, but it was great.  Very nice. Lots of whip-type pans and jerky movements (shoulder? Handheld?). I liked this section a lot. I'd give that series of shots a full-on 5 or 6 rating.

Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more.
