From the Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, MA, comes this video shot with two XDCam EX. This is a shock video of the "Shockwave" truck, driven by Kent Shockley and designed by his dad, Les Shockley, on it's (unexpectedly) final run. Something went wrong while the truck was at-speed, causing it to veer to the right and do a series of rolls.
Footage was taken from two cameras and there is a slow motion replay near the end, showing what happened in more detail.
The driver miraculously escaped uninjured, thanks to the great safety engineering that went into the cab of the truck.

Nice one.

Nice video, Mark. Too bad he was on the other side of that line of jets, but a good catch on video. Well done.

Too bad you didn't have a longer lens and a closer mic to pick up the sound and fury of that truck.

Nice video!

Yeah, there was a lot of visual distractions througout that whole show, with military personnel driving electric golf carts and vans back and forth in front of the crowd, and jets and stunt planes parked on the runway.

I do need to get a telephoto lens for the EX1, but the sample frames I've seen so far are just awful with distortion and chromatic aberration, especially outside the central area. I've had times in the balcony of concert halls where I could have used more 'reach' than the 14X Fujinon provides, but I'm not complaining, because this is the first compact camera I've owned that is wide enough on the wide end, and freedom from 'tunnel vision' is a big plus for me.

In a rare exception, I put this up on YouTube also, and, interestingly, XR is beating YouTube for hits by about 3:2 ratio.

The YT video got a rather irate comment from someone who claims to be Kent Shockley's wife (and probably is) who seems upset that the video even exists and that somehow her husband's misfortune is being exploited. In an earlier time, I would have had more sensitivity about that, but I guess I've become a bullish, insensitive member of the media, promoting the clip on the sensationalism of it all. Oh well, you can't please everyone, especially upset wives of performers who suffer misfortune on the track...
