The only lights used in these shots were practicals and a single candle light providing most of the illumination. The Canon 5D Mark II doesn't allow much manual control so it chose to open the lens (a 85mm f1.8) to the max, hence the very shallow depth of field. I am very impressed with the lack of noise at this kind of light level.
