This is a short edited out of 14 hours of footage I took between 2005 and 2007 in Iceland. I want to show a land of contrast: The beautiful and rough landscapes, appearing just like after the Genesis of the planet. Giant glaciers and innumerable hot springs. Phenomenal waterfalls and endless plains with nothing but dust and pebbles. And in harsh contrast the high tech use of geothermal energy, providing an endless source of energy and wealth for a small nation, which was thereby pitchforked from Europe's poorhouse to a wealthy society in a few decades. A land of contrasts, right in the middle between Europe and America, constantly facing the unpredictable activities of huge volcanic activities.

I love the music and the way the edits of the various shots of the landscape go with the music. Minimalistic, sparse, yet majestic both in pictures and music. Iceland looks to be a very interesting place.

Wonderful images.

Breathtaking images, Eva. I like the mix of movement and still shots. You did a great job cutting together a mix of footage shot over 2 years! Matching color and exposure is difficult with so much footage that spans time (and camera settings.) I'm curious to know what type of post-production work you did on this piece? Color correction, etc.
Eva Sturm    April 23, 2008 06:22 PM

@Michael

Thank you for your nice comment. I used only a few color corrections. All done in SONY VEGAS.

Eva,
I really enjoyed this video: beautiful composition and lighting. What's fantastic about these extremely northern countries is that the "golden hour" lasts for about half the day!
Have you ever seen this film Noi Albinoi?

It is really cool being able to shoot at 2:00 am!!! The worst part is the winter when you only get about 30 minutes or so to shoot. There is no light like that up north.

Eva

Some really graphically beautiful shots, you've really captured the mystery of this place. I was up there a few summers back and had to keep reminding myself I wasn't in a dream, an amazing country.

Wow,

That was beautiful! very powerful, who's the music by and what's it called? it's a lovely track.

I love the time-lapse and slowmo shots, and It was nice to see the red 4x4 parked outside the factory with the zoom out from there. This gave a sense of perspective to the size of everything.

What a lovely place, Iceland is country on my list of places to visit within my lifetime.

Well done, i was overwhelmed by the Waterfall at 4:20... How did you get the sky so dark with the Z1? Did you used some gradient filters on site, or is it done by postproduction? Sometimes it even looked like HDRphotography....
Eva Sturm    August 14, 2008 05:26 PM

Hi Rob,

thank you for the feedback. I always use gradient filters (grey) to compensate the sky and avoid clipping of the lights. I didn't use hardly any correction in postpro.
