Please forgive my dorky commentary and singing... we got a little goofy.

Note: This footage has been color graded. I added the non-graded version after the graded version for comparison. Probably could have pulled back on the ISO a bit.

Settings - ISO 800 • F/1.4 • 1/400 • 24 FPS

My wife and I visited our photographer friend Hector to investigate the Canon EF 50mm f1.4. I was interested in getting one after seeing the recommendation on Philip Bloom's blog. I was able to coax Hector into selling me the Lens and I am very grateful for that. Amazing lens! Just before filming, Jordan, a friend of Hector's showed up with the dog he is dog sitting, Roxy. I was able to get a great variety of test shots.

About this lens This is a 50mm Prime Lens. Prime Lenses do not zoom, but are fixed. This lens is special because of its Depth of Field when set to 1.4 (as it was set to in the video). This produces AMAZING results in controlled situations.

Pro's - Amazing Depth of field. Decent focus ring. Cheap for its ability/quality/value!
Con's - No Image Stabilizer (I'd stick to a tripod), It's a Prime (no zooming) Cropped on 7D (closer to a 80mm after the crop)

This lens costs about $340.

Magic Bullet Looks plugin in FCP. Great lens. I'll try to shoot something... A little less spastic next time.

Colors are real punchy Charles and the shallow DoF is mad dude, not much room for error!

Hi Charles. Problably you still remember my music video the one I shot with the 7D and that precise lens. It's a very good lens. Of course I would like to have the prices you guys have in the states. the 50 mm 1.4 in Europe costs around 450 € wich is more or less $600. We must be F****** rich . So canon's people think.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Dallas, I have been a film junkie from a young age. While I was heavy into to 2D computer animation in high school (as well as 3D animation in college), it was not until I received a roll in an independent film that I realized my love for film-making.
