So my boss comes in with a stack of iTV stuff that is about to hit the trash. I pull out the robotic camera. It basically rotates in a circle via remote... but no controls. I say I'll check it out. I pop off the cover and rip off the outer shell to discover that it basically has the guts of a handycam with a...

... wide-angle lens attachment. It's an odd size... just smaller than my HV40's 43mm lens. So just playing around, I take a photo with my iPhone... and then another with me holding the lens in front of the camera.

So I take another pair...

I loved the effect I was getting so I decide to see if I can attach it to the iPhone somehow. I unscrew the attachment ring that was holding the Wide-angle lens to the iTV cam and then I dig up my old iPhone case. We then take a drill to it and viola!

Like the test hole at the bottom? So we struck gold. It was perfectly aligned with the phone so you don't get the rim of the lens. Unfortunately the lens hangs over a little so you have to put your hand over the edge of the lens to prevent a reflection. Here are some raw pics straight off of the iPhone.

And here is one I touched up in PS.

No... this will not replace a handy DSLR at your side. But! The best camera is the one that you have with you.

Party on,
Frisby

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Dallas, I have been a film junkie from a young age. While I was heavy into to 2D computer animation in high school (as well as 3D animation in college), it was not until I received a roll in an independent film that I realized my love for film-making.
