Hard comments

This is hard but firstly nice edit to music works well but I must be honest...If this is for a well known client and a TV add it would have been better to pay more attention to scratches and thumb prints on the phones and use cotton gloves when handling them. Sorry but this takes the shine off a well produced advert.

Philip,

I agree with you 100%. During post, the footage drove me nuts. This was still sort of an experiment when we shot it and it turned out to be the final product. Since I worked for the company, not freelance, it was forgivable. The target was SD local television insertion, so I talked myself into believing that it would not show up as much (which in all fairness it does not).

The scratches could not be avoided as I literally pulled the phones out of their boxes. I washed my hands before, but prints kept resurfacing. I have footage of dust literally being pulled onto the phone via static as soon as I would wipe them down. HD can be a curse!

I asked myself these questions after the project was over.... Would CG have been better? You bet. Could we have done it? It would have cost a lot more, but I got to learn a new technique. Could I have fixed some of the issues if I did it again? Of course! Is the ad affective non-the-less? Time will tell, but I get a lot of positive feedback.

I'm truly enjoyed creating the ad, and learned a lot of new techniques. I also know now what not to do!

Thanks for your honesty.... it's humbling!

Well done

That's the difference between Professional and amateur...a true pro takes it on the chin...good for you...and tell me about static it's such a bugbear with plastic.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Dallas, I have been a film junkie from a young age. While I was heavy into to 2D computer animation in high school (as well as 3D animation in college), it was not until I received a roll in an independent film that I realized my love for film-making.
