** This slight revision fixed a timing problem with the audio track. I also added additional sound effects (mostly wing flutter). It is a work-in-progress.
The Bobolink, a well-known bird of northern hay-fields, is one of our most gifted songsters. Although each male sings just two different song types, these songs are extraordinary outbursts of metallic, gurgling notes delivered while perched or in flight, and sometimes lasting four seconds or more.
The bubbling, ecstatic quality of the Bobolink's song has been described by many naturalists. Arthur Cleveland Bent referred to it as "a bubbling delirium of ecstatic music that flows from the gifted throat of the bird like sparkling champagne."
This video short features great footage of both the male and female, and pays tribute to the Bobolink's amazing song.
