Prospero Exiled    November 26, 2010 10:53 AM

Organic work

The shot of the leaf (2:18) in the water reminds me of the opening shot of Solaris (also, incidentally, a film about memory). There is an organic quality to your work, a thin veneer that binds the whole, like a supple, sensuous skin. Your autumnal spirit hovers wispily over ruddy, depleted lands, as a withered leaf sings a duet with the prevailing wind. Introduced by 'le néant d'une lumière assourdissante,' the sequence at "what the leaf writes on the walls of memory..." is synecdochical poetry. The image of the peacock-blue leaves shimmering in the water is exhilarating (Parajanov). It's placement, in the opening bars of Melonai Bridson's mournful song, is hauntingly powerful. There is no earthly egress from memory, not even its pale shadows from days afar: the eschar of burnt grasses on the soul. Mockingbird, you are a wonder to me.

you overwhelm me, exiled Prospero, you are being far too generous. i am sorry, i still can't believe that i deserve all this praise. but i am enjoying your joy and wonder :-)
