They're calling it the 500 year flood. As the rains fell all over the midwest, the ground already saturated from record snowfalls couldn't absorb any more water. Rivers ands creeks rose to levels never seen before.
In the end 25,000 people were without homes, 1300 city blocks were under water. It's the worst flood in Iowa history.

Kevin,

It must be hard to take your camera around and film this stuff. It is so sad what has happened to a wonderful city and its environs. I'm glad you ended the video on a positive note, not a despairing one. What will happen now?

You've managed to convey the full extent of the catastrophe with these shots, something that wasn't quite so clear from the news reports, here in Europe at least.

The river is still above flood stage and is FINALLY expected to drop below flood stage tomorrow morning.
