A while back I had to go to Hawaii on business. My wife, being a California girl, was disappointed that she couldn't go with me because of her work schedule. Living in Iowa, she misses the ocean very much. On trips back to California, she will spend hours just watching the waves.
So as I was flying back from Oahu, I edited this on the flight home for her.
When we got home, she asked me how the trip went. I hooked up my laptop to the HDTV and let her know that even though I was in paradise, all I could think about was her.

Very very nice. Loved the song too. You had some great shots. I'll bet your wife loved it!

You must love her very much. The images show.

Kevin, not much to say other than great job. Some spectacular shots there but, more importantly, I really loved your framing choices. Very nice.

Kevin,
Super job. loved the lighting on some of the wave shots...I'm sure your wife loved the sentiment as well...
Keep up the great work

I understand your wife's love of water and waves, and watching this I felt as if I were sitting by the seaside, my "feet" dangling in, transfixed by the movement of the natural elements. I'm not technical enough to know what it is about this video that drew me in, but it certainly did. Thanks Kevin, for sharing your paradise with us!

Kevin,

Really nice work. Likewise my wife loves the ocean. I am sure this meant alot to her.

Best Regards,
Mark

Thanks for all the kind words.
My wife still tears up when she watches it.

I had originally thought about tweaking it a bit and changing some things but decided to keep it just as it was when I stepped off the plane.

Peg, I'm not technical enough to figure it out either. :) I just shoot what looks good to me and if it works, then great. :)

Kevin,

This is a lovely short! You've got some really nice shots with some nice composition and perfect choice of music as well.

I can't imagine how you can edit videos on a machine you can't watch them on. How does that work Kevin? Can you watch the Low/small version on XR on your machine?

Will Mahoney    July 21, 2008 12:41 PM

Wow!

Very well done, sir. I liked the last shot of the airplane leaving, the foot prints in the sand running diagonally across the frame, the waves, upon waves, upon waves. Everything was just wonderful. Well done.

Shiv,

Final Cut Pro will reduce the quality of the image to let me play back my footage as I'm editing it. But on my computer, it will skip frames etc so about the only way I can really check it is to compress it and then watch it.

I can't watch any of the videos on XR without them stuttering, skipping etc. But I get a pretty good idea of what they're like anyway. :)

But if anyone has a MacBook Pro laying around that they want to donate, I'd be happy to take it off their hands. :)

I envy you Kevin...

I wish I could have gone on a trip without being rushed along by others anoyed with all my equipment. I went to Maryland for our family vacation and couldn't bring the equipment I wanted to, nor did I have a chance to really get out and capture the images I would have liked to. You had some great footage and good job on your editing before your battery went dead. I wanted to bring my Macbook as well but as I mentioned, too much equipment.
