A work in progress test (just to observe the animation effect). Still needs some tweaking to ensure that the parts arrive in their final resting places in a more logical order. This was done using a slightly modified version of the "Procedurally Driven Scene" python script that was featured in issue 16 of the Blender Art Magazine (www.blenderart.org).

That's great! I see what you're saying about the logical order of arrival, but once that's worked out, it'll be amazing. How long does it take you to do something like this? It's awesome!!!

I'm normally working on several shots simultaneously, so this is a rough estimate: Including research and software development time, I'd guess it probably took about a week to develop the idea to this point. I spent quite a lot of time determining the best method of importing LEGO models into Blender, and then another day or so tweaking the Python scripts that drive the animation. Now that the pipeline is set up, I can apply the concept to virtually any LEGO model in a matter of minutes.

LEGO models and the visual "building" metaphor are a central theme in the promo that I'm creating, so I needed to develop an efficient, repeatable method of achieving this effect.
