Well done, guys.

Gentlemen,
Very good job on this one. I really dug the behind the scenes, black&white footage - shot by Mark, right? Very cool addition to a product video.
Philip Bloom    March 24, 2009 09:26 AM

Yep, Mark shot the black and white stuff. I got him to shoot with 1/250th shutter in and leave his tripod at home! I wanted a kinetic "guerrilla" style look to it as we were filming somewhere without permission! He did a good job!

I graded that stuff heavily in magic bullet looks, put loads of grain in and cropped it to 2:35 to 1

I find some of the images very disturbing. I am not talking about the CA with Fujinon lens or technical aspect of the camera or the shooting.

What's up with eyebrow hair sticking up?... I'm Just kidding Philip. Very nice review.

Thanks for kipping us up with the new stuff coming out.

Great

Nice job.
Phil, Dennis & Mark.
This was a great video.
Phil, you are getting very good as on camera talent with a read straight to camera. Well done.

Nice edit and great comments on the camera. Interesting you are using a team to knock these out! Really funny about the location cops...

Having reviewed all 3 camcorders... the EX-3 (which you also own) the Pana 301 and the JVC 700, are we looking at the EX-3 for low light, 301 then the 700. It looks like the 1/3" chips are holding back the Pana and JVC which is a shame. Good review and nice background work from the lads. All the best, Philip.

Nice

Thanks.. Great info and great footage

Absolutley superb example ... really impressed with the crisp image quality and colour, and this camera isn't mega expensive either.
I also thought DOF was very good too - good enough for creative use I thought.

I think your gear demos are really good Philip - you're amazingly creative behind the camera, and pretty interesting in front of it too.

Many thanks for your time and valued effort - you really are an inspiration!

Chris.

PS ... not forgetting Dennis Lennie & Mark Dawson, well done guys!
Philip Bloom    March 25, 2009 01:25 PM

Hi Chris. The shallow DOF was used by the old tricks of end of the lens and macro. Will be a lot harder with the 14x Canon. But if you know what you are doing you can get great shots with just about any camera!\

Philip, EX3 is low light king then the 301 about a stop slower, then the JVC, didn't get an accurate comparison to say how much slower. Be great if other manufacturers started using 1/2" chips but doesn't seem likely right now. Panny seem locked into 1/3" and JVC won't be bringing out anything new for a while now...Wonder what Canon are up to?

Hi Thomas, you can do these reviews on your own (my recent letus video was self shot) but it is so much easier with a cameraman. I had extra help this time as Dennis couldn't come with me to Battersea as he had meetings to go to, that's why I enlisted my erstwhile assistant Mark Dawson to shoot the background stuff. Two people is fine, unless you were doing a behind the scenes of a behind the scenes?! That may well happen one day!! Would have been impossible doing the behind the scenes on my own!! Dennis is also the client, so it helps when he shoots...

Thank you for the review Philip. After watching your work for about a year now I have come to trust your opinion. These reviews you do are very helpful to me and I always share them with my colleagues. It's nice to see JVC still in the game. I am still actively using the JVC GY-HD100 which is somewhat dated now and I am looking to update. So these reviews truly help. A big thank you from me.

Side note. I am very interested in the GY-HM700's little brother, the GY-HM100. If you get your hands on one of these could you please do a review of it. I would greatly appreciate that. Thanks a million.

Hoping to in next two weeks Paul!

Hi,

does this camera work with the Canon 3x zoom wide lens?

Compared to P2 Cards, most memory cards are cheap

nice review

Hi guys,

Really like the reviews, just wondering what you meant by 'upgraded jvc footage'

Does this mean you altered the raw vision ?

Also was it shot in SD or HDV ?

Tough question but what would you go for EX3 or the JVC 700.

Im upgrading the trusty pd150.

Cheers,

gusman

Canon vs. Fuji standard lenses quality for the 700

Hi Phillip,
Curious which lens you used when shooting this piece with the JVC 700. I shoot car reviews and while I'd like the longer lens of the Fuji 17, I occasionally hear the Canon 14 is noticeably sharper. Are these comments a case of people being brand loyal? Is there a significant difference that viewers can see between the two or is it a very small? A definitive pro/con post from those who have compared the two would be very helpful for all of us.

Finally, know any good resources where owners are sharing camera set ups? Looks like the 700 can be tweaked quite a bit. Thanks for your thoughts! TVC
