Really Effective. 2.35 aspect ratio makes this special. Thanks for the blog info on this.

beautiful work

This is really nice Phil. How can you go wrong with a pink caravan and a beer bottle! Hope you managed to keep the dust off that new camera. Well done again...geoff.

Nice

The State of CA should hire you to Film the state for one year.... When are all your videos going to be on a DVD?

Aliasing worse on the 550D?

Are you finding that the 550D/T2i aliases more than the other Canon's. There's a fair bit of aliasing and moire in this clip.

Great

Great little movie there. That little camera looks like a great deal to me. Id say there may be some compression artifacts here and there but Id bet right out of Final Cut Pro to pro res then to blu ray and it looks pretty clean. Transcoding always adds issues. Otherwise ... great and thanks. Phiip's work is always very insightful and polished .

what a hell-hole place

Man, what where you doing down there?
Am always amazed people actually live in that furnace and on a polluted land/water/dirt/sand.

Salton Sea is destroyed and there is no hope of restoring it.
I gotta give you 5-stars for enduring the place while you're there, but yer movie is not that impressive to me.
Sorry dude, I know you're one of the mucky-muck of videos, but this was not my favorite.

Ya know, am going to make an open challenge here if you're willing to go along with this test:

I'll create a video under your name and you post it as if you made it.
I bet you a hundred bucks that it would get uhhh and ahhh and stars, yet it was not your work.... but under your name.
If I post the same video under my name, no one would notice it.

So much for constructive judments... huh?
Not saying am a better videographer than you are... clearly you're much better, but post some of your stuff under a faux name and see if you get the admiration as you do under your name.

Am just sayign the emperor has no clothes.. ya know what I mean? :)

Hi Phillip,
Nice job. Could I get your honest opinion of this?

A true challenge!

Great storytelling of a place anybody would identify as a bad place, but not Philip Bloom. Great job... and great music choice too, as usual.

Amazing

This pretty much opened my eyes on how a tiny little camera with a lower cost (and of course having the right editing software to polish) is really just as effective as using a more "higher end" camera like the HVX and what not. Also a really interesting film too.

Great!

Great filming. Great editing. Great sound. Great landscape. A Philip Bloom!
