Wow! Thats an amazing opportunity to be in "the ranch." Great vid as usual Philip. When you mentioned in the forums that they projected it to big screen, do you mean digitally or they did a film out?

Philip Bloom    December 12, 2009 10:26 AM
Digital projection. Lucasfilm after all! ;-)

fantastic movie

Perfectly! Very live and realistic picture! Very gently also it is tasty! Realisation of simultaneous movement of the chamber and the accelerated movement of stars is not clear. Very much it was pleasant to me. Well done

Truly Geeked out kinda Cool!
Love the subtle color treatment. Still a big fan of your landscape work. that's what makes me a groupie. : )

P.S. Video's like this is the reason I want to persuade you to attend a certain event in the Spring of 2010... you're killin' me... ; )

Incredible
Philip,

What a wonderful film and an incredible story.

I love the dolly shot by the way. They seem to keep their floorboards shiny, too.

Love It!
Great job and what an honor. I'll be looking out for your cameo in the next SW!
Keep it up.

Your best so far. You are really gifted with a great eye,
Love the framing, motion and the music goes very well with it too.
The day wasn't sunny with white clouds, but not even George Lucas has control over that.
Congrats.

like always, great job...

Its a fantastic looking place captured beautifully as always by you. What any filmmaker wouldn't give to be a guest at Skywalker ranch.
The more footage I see of the Canon the more I want one.
Do you have any tutorials for filming time lapse. The star time lapse took me back to my stay in Texas several years ago.

A bit... slow.
Looks beautiful as usual... but I was pretty bored. Maybe it's just my mood... but I found myself flipping through the video like a photo album. Don't get me wrong... it looks amazing, better than I could do... but slow. I'm sure everyone attending loved it.

What an opportunity, and beautifully shot all by Bloom Solo, may the force be with you!

Was it just me?
Another gorgeous video, Philip. It just goes to prove that you can capture beautiful images no matter how gray and overcast a day might be. I'd love to hear more about your technique for the star timelapse shots. I'm guessing a graduated ND filter helped keep the house from blowing out in the bottom half of the frame. Also, I had something weird happen during playback. During both HD and Mid playback, I had some huge digital artifacting from 6:03 to 6:17. It appeared to be compression artifacts brought on by the movement of the mist and fog. Did anybody else get that during playback?

I downloaded it and converted to ProRess and I don't see it on a 42" Plasma.

Followup...
Just tried playing it in Safari (first playback was Firefox) and it still degrades severely at 06:00 where there is a very brief (00:01 sec.) clip of ducks on the pond. It continues all the way to 06:17 where it clears up till the end. Weird, huh?

Douglas Villalba    December 14, 2009 02:22 PM
Then it most be the ER re-compression. Download the .h264

I love the indy slide on the deck shot. Beautiful. You're a lucky lucky man to go there. Well done mate

Well done that man, truly inspiring for all of us.
The night stuff and early morning mists really do it for me.

Fabulous
I was there years ago regarding a conversation on THX and remember it just that way a beautiful place indeed and you did a great job capturing that. It seals the deal for me on getting a Canon 7D no question about it.

I agree with the previous opinion, the work done is just brilliant. I can not help wondering ... Thanks

Gary P    December 20, 2009 11:46 AM
From what I got, it was mostly shot on the 5d except the timelapse footage, correct?

Gary P    December 20, 2009 11:49 AM
Hi Phillp,

Great stuff, but I had a problem downloading the orginal file? Do you know what's up?

Thanks for sharing!!!

My opinion
Yes its a collection of pretty pictures but there is a fair bit of movement, pull focus, tracking...what more do you want...I suspect the concept behind this is to show the folks at Lucasfilm what can be achieved with low budget equipment compared to what they are used to spending and if he gets a job out it good luck to him. Not a big fan of the lensbaby though !
