Awesome!

Awesome review, Philip. Maybe in a few years I'll be at a level where I can think about purchasing one of these monsters. Thanks!

Nice greens
Philip Bloom    February 26, 2009 11:05 AM

i don't like greens that much. My parents always told me to eat them but never did!

This Camera is amazing. Nice to hear your comments on the monitor. I can't wait to rent one these....

Were you able to test it with a Letus adapter?

One question Philip: The Panasonic HPX 301e is priced similar to the EX3, and appears to have many more `Pro` features for the money - this camera really does look `serious` for the creative videographer.

Now you're aware of this camera, is it a better bet than say an EX3?

Kindest regards
Chris.
Philip Bloom    February 27, 2009 01:07 PM

that's such a tough question to answer. The ex3 is a fair bit cheaper, better in low light, smaller (that is a plus for many). The 301 has better codec, albeit a hungry one, nicer form factor. The ex3 has half inch chip, 301 has 1/3". I really couldn't say which one is 'better". If you tell me what you want to do with it I could give you a better answer...

Philip, i've read kids need a lot of fat, so you were definitely right not eating those veg, but chips instead!

Basically Philip, I want a camera that allows me to be as creative as possible given any situation, and offers the best High Def codec without a second mortgage round my neck.

I love this cams AVC-Intra 100 and 50 codecs, I don't like the high cost of P2 cards, man they cost more than SxS memory, but then again how much memory do you need - I should imagine 64GB (one large P2 card) is more than enough for most jobs unless you're using AVC-Intra 100, YIKES!

Paying thousands for memory cards leaves red lights flashing in my head, even if the job you're working on pays for it.

A few days back I had use of the new Sony HVR-Z5E, it uses the old DV tape but with CMOS tech developed for the EX range. Okay, it wasn't quite as good as an EX1, but it wasn't that far off, in fact it was impressive. It even allows for memory cards and records in progressive too, all on a tape costing £1

I love the Panasonic AG-HPX301E, if P2 cards didn't cost as much as an half decent HD cam, I'd buy one.

Many thanks for the review though, I'm tempted to rent one for a day or so, maybe I'll change my mind :-)

So, Philip, what do you think would be the "natural habitat" of that camcorder? ENG, TV programs, small budget cinematography, corporate shooting?

Damn, One Gigabyte per each minute of footage.. what would you edit that with?!? that takes some monstre editing machines to handle it!
Ricardo Moura    April 28, 2010 06:41 PM

what about the noise??

thanks for the review. i really like it. recently i tested the camera, and i like it. but i saw a lot of noise. is any configuration in the camera, besides gain, that make the noise??
