Memories of The Ex: 122 Years at Lansdowne
From 1888 until August 29, 2010, the Central Canada Exhibition, aka The Ottawa Ex, has been a much beloved annual event held at scenic Lansdowne Park on the banks of the historic Rideau Canal in Ottawa.
Sadly this wonderful run appears to have come to an end. In part this is because Lansdowne Park is going through a major redevelopment. And in part it is because over the decades The Ex evolved, or devolved as many would say, from a great agricultural fair to a 10-day midway with a few token agricultural displays thrown in.
What ever the reason, and even if it is revived in a new location, The Ex, that is the "true" Ex, will be deeply missed by a huge portion of the population of Ottawa and the surrounding areas. This documentary looks at how the CCE began and follows it through the decades. It features inteviews of long time fair goers, one of whom had attended for 78 consecutive years, several local celebrities who were deeply involved with The Ex, and several members of the CCE executive, past and present.
