A day sorting the owner's manual ... Managed to arrange selections that might work, for the moment. My little companions are obliging talent.
Uneven light was sort of trimmed in CC 3 way > black.
Edit FCP, ProRes 422 files.
Panasonic Lumix GH1, 14-44 with Mega OIS + ND Vari Fader. 90MM F5.6 1/50 Shutter, Smooth Profile, Manual, Hand Held ... Try that with 5d/7d @ 90MM for wobble cam effect ... Hehe.

Thanks Annie. They are aggressive little devils, even with there own type. So greedy ... I know the nectar mix, I'm the budget bread boy, Coles $1.10 it's really crook, but they eat it regardless.

Have A Very Merry Christmas.

Hi Ron,
Nice video and looks real steady for handheld. You do have a 5d don't you? Do you know how the GH1 compares in low light to a 5 or 7d? It's quite amazing to have colorfull birds like this sitting outside, here we only have ugly birds that come up that close :)
Ron Coker    December 20, 2009 05:27 AM

Thanks Robin. It's early days yet but I would say the 5d is pack leader. 7d & GH1 appear to have very similar performance in an ideal situation. GH1 is discrete and compact, has auto focus and image stabilization on several Lumix lenses. I'm a novice user of both 7d & GH1, so these are first impressions. I would say that if you are considering these cameras GH1 would be my choice as it is much cheaper. If Low light is a factor there is the Lumix Pancake 20MM F1.7 manual focus lens, or a Canon 24MM F1.4 with 4/3 converter. You can expect a good result with maximum ISO of 800. Vimeo community has several user groups, good examples and info etc.

Trust this helps. Have a very Merry Christmas.

Thanks Ron for the info, Merry xmas as well, looks like it's going to be a white Christmas here, currently about 20cm of snow :)

I swear... now I want an Lumix GH1. I have a HV40, XHA1 and a 7D and I'm still not content.

AU has some beautiful native birds. Most of the birds in my area look like the blackbird in the back.

Hi Charles, Thanks for your comments. My post to Robin Put covers my initial impression of this fine little camera. The GH1 has features that the Canon line have overlooked. I'm wading through the owners manual, It's comprehensive, a bit overwhelming, no doubt I will get there.
Cheers.

We have the same RL's over here as immigrants which have become somewhat of a pest. They dominate the twentyeights which are no lightweight when it comes to cheek.

Apparently the blame goes back to one of the universities where some escaped from and bred in the wild from there.

There is a hanging terracotta bird feeder out front here which is also a camera test bed from time to time. It is in the shape of a overlarge pine cone. The birds go up on top and try to secateur through the chain which it hangs from.

Their logic I guess, is "If this is a large gum nut, it can be brought down" for easier picking. A bit like the ram and the 100 kilowatt dam. It might be possible but would take a couple of hundreds of generations of parrots to sever the chain.

These new HD motion-capable cameras are a game changer and make a SI2K owner-operator feel a little bit sick when the cost-benefit equation is examined.

In a production environment they have a way to go yet but this has not stopped low-no budget people from using them and getting amazing results.

Have the birds come in and chewed up any blind cords or lacework yet?

There was a big male bandicoot over here which used to come through the catflap, - no subtlety, just "slam-bamm", "thumpitta-thumpitta" on the kitchen lino floor, monster the cat up onto the table, pinch the catfood, try to tear up the carpet for lawn beetles, dump a few blackberries then depart.

A car got him last year. They have about the same road sense as the road surface itself and are fated to become as one with it, poor little sods.

Animals are a delight to have around. The God's creatures message about let tomorrow's concerns look after themselves rings quite true when these little guys are about.

Have a genuine, good and fulfilled Christmas and Happy New Year for you and your own.

All the best from here in the West.

A Big Thank you Bob. Yes they stray inside occasionally and do damage. I made the mistake of grabbing an intruder on my kitchen cane blinds recently as it was destroying what is left of them after 30 + years. It bit me so hard, the pain and blood flowed! I rammed it against the sink top and thumped it's head, finally firing out widow like a javelin. Really hurt me.

The little camera is fine also, very pleased.

Thanks for your comments.

A Very Merry Christmas To All.
