Lake Matheson, South Island, New Zealand

My wife and I recently visited New Zealand. We traveled for 5 weeks through this beautiful country. One of the many highlights was this mirror lake.

Lake Matheson is just outside the small town of Fox Glacier on the west coast of the South Island. It is a 30min walk from the car park through thick forest to get to this view point. We stayed 2 days in the town and I hiked out 4 times in order to get a clear view of Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman peaking through the clouds. My previous attempts failed because of heavy fog, rain, clouds or all of the above.

I am really happy how this one turned out. I'm glad the clouds covered the mountains at the beginning and slowly reveal the peaks as the video progresses. I love the 3 main speeds of movement in the time lapse; the clouds passing by high above me, the mist raising from the trees (it had rained all day long) and the wave patters on the surface (from ducks taking of and landing).

I am also quite happy with the ending, how the fog just rolled in and set a nice ending to the show.
