The shots here are from my first paid gig. I also just received the Steadicam Marlin a few days prior to leaving for Colorado. So the steadicam shots you see here are my very first. I found the Steadicam easy to use in terms of carrying the weight of the Merlin and camera in one hand and even the balance aspect. What is hard is that you have to anticipate the camera moves before you'd normally move kind of, so that's going to take quite a bit of practice. Some shots did work out ok however.

Are you kidding me? You've got some lovely handheld shots in there. One near the end has the camera moving backwards through a beautiful kitchen with granite countertops. Super smooth. Nice!

But the train drives backwards? That's not very picturesque... :)

The beautiful hand held shot is really done using the Steadicam Merlin. Again my first attempt at using a Merlin. The same goes for the shot of the couple in the "showroom".

Wow, it looks like I could really take my automotive shooting to a whole new level with a Merlin. Smooth, dramatic shots that circle, follow around, or swoosh past a badass ride are my downfall. I'm trying so hard to get good hand-held footage. Maybe there is somewhere that I can rent one to try.

The Merlin has it's pitfalls as well. The slightest breeze and it gets knocked. But yes, I think for some shots you've done in that video you could in fact have used a Merlin. You can't go too low because stuff hangs down from it but you can get smooth.

I am impressed the lack of "wandering" which the Merlin seems prone to, either from an air conditioning duct or just a sudden puff of wind!

Curious how you did the depth of field shots since digital camcorders don't give you much opportunity to use low f stops to lower the DOF.

Tim thank you for the cmpliments.

Yes, one has to control the Merlin at all times and I do that by applying a very light touch to the giude ring with my thumb and/or finger.

For the interview shots (shallow DOF) I used a Letus35 Extreme.
