We have provided a "Privacy Control" for your assets.  You will see it when you upload and edit an asset.  All aspects of "privacy" will be contained in one section of these pages, including:
  • Temporarily Hide an asset
  • Password-Protect an asset

For videos, when editing an asset the "Privacy" area will also include:

  • Allow (others) to use "Embed Tags" (to embed links to your asset in other website pages)
  • Allow download of the original asset

Let's explain what each of these mean.

1.  Password-protect:

This is a new feature.  If you password-protect your asset by supplying a password, normal visitors will not see your asset.  The search engines will not be "informed" of the existence of your asset.

Making an asset password-protected is something you may want to do when you wish to limit viewing of an asset to a certain individual(s), such as a customer or family member.

If you wish to password-protect an asset, you may supply a password at the time of uploading the asset, or later at the time of editing the asset, as the screen shot below shows:

Once an asset has been password-protected, you may provide the link to the asset (copy the url when you view the asset) to the individual(s) to whom you wish to give access to the asset along with, of course, the password.

Here is an example of such a link (this link is non-operational):

When the privileged individual clicks on the hyperlink, they will be asked for the password, as the screen shot below shows:

Upon providing the correct password, they will be taken to view the asset.

Your asset will not appear anywhere else on ExposureRoom, whether from a search, or on the home page, or in the list of "recents", etc.

Note for Videos:  If an asset is "Password-Protected" or "Temporarily Hidden", embed links are NOT available.

2.  Temporarily Hiding an Asset

This feature has been available for a while.  It is meant to provide some level of comfort to people as they complete information on the asset such as title, description and tags.

As with password-protecting an asset, such an asset does not appear anywhere on ExposureRoom, until it is "un-hidden".

The ability to temporarily hide an asset is available only when you first upload an asset.  You cannot "hide" an asset later.

Note for Videos:  If an asset is "Password-Protected" or "Temporarily Hidden", embed links are NOT available.

3.  Allowing others to "Embed" your asset (Videos)

This is allowed by default unless you change it.  When embedding is allowed, it means that anyone, not just yourself, can copy and paste the embed links that accompany a video into a web page of their choosing.

You may disallow this if you wish by unchecking the "Allow Others to Embed" checkbox.  This does not affect your ability to copy/paste such embed links into other web pages.

FYI -- when a video is viewed from a website other than ExposureRoom, as happens when a video is viewed from an embedded link, search engines do not have access to the information readily available when a video is viewed from ExposureRoom.

Note:  If an asset is "Password-Protected" or "Temporarily Hidden", embed links are NOT available.

4.  Allow Download of Original (Videos)

This is allowed by default unless you change it.  There may be occasions when you do not wish to allow viewers to download the original video.  If that is the case, un-check this checkbox.
