We've released a new feature that allows members to define a custom or tiny url for each of their assets and albums (and will be extended to work for portfolios when they are introduced).

While we were at it we also enabled a short url for your member websites. Essentially the short url to your member website is http://exposureroom.com/yourusername

Currently there is no way to change this url, but we will be introducing a feature later on that will allow members to choose the tail end of the url for their member websites as well.

Asset Urls Today

As things stand today there are two urls for any given asset. The "real" url and a short url. For example the real url for one of my assets is:

This is the url you see in the address bar of your browser when you're viewing the asset. The short url for this asset is simply:

The way you figure out the short url is to look at the tail end of the real url for an asset and use the last "part" and add it on to the url of the domain. Please also note that the ExposureRoom url does not have a "www".

Tiny Urls for Assets/Albums

The new feature will allow members to define tiny urls for their own assets and albums. The beginning of the url will always be http://exposureroom.com/

The last part of the url is what you get to choose for your own assets. This last part must have a minimum 4 characters and up to a maximum of 30 chatacters that is a combination of letters, numbers and dashes.

Keep in mind that the real url is the real thing. The short and tiny urls are for conveniance and sending links in emails or posting links in newsgroups on ExposureRoom and other websites.

We're also adding a "Send Link" option that visitors and members can use in order to send emails with the link to the asset in question. This link will either be the tiny url you specified or the short url (as mentioned above).
